‘Compelling and beautiful’: great review of Lowry book

I’ve just spotted a glowing review of Malcolm Lowry: From the Mersey to the World, published in the Review of English Studies and available online here. The book is described as ‘compelling and beautiful’ – and beautiful it is, designed by Alan Ward of Axis Graphic Design. Reviewer Miguel Mota also picks up on the affection for Lowry that runs through even the most conventionally scholarly pieces in the book, and on the way in which the different contributions, despite their wide range of approaches, ‘speak’ to each other to create a coherent whole – which is, Mota concludes, ‘an appropriate approach to a man whose life and work were themselves a wonderful mix of the singular and the universal’.
