Welcome to my website. I am a poet, writer, editor, and scholar, based in Liverpool. I work as Managing Editor for Carcanet Press in Manchester, one of the UK’s longest established poetry publishers. I have published poetry, reviews, academic articles, a monograph, and (co-edited with Bryan Biggs) an illustrated collection of essays and creative writing celebrating the centenary of novelist Malcolm Lowry (see Publications for more details, and Poems to read some of my work). My fields of interest are English literature (mainly modernism and other twentieth-century literature), poetry, and philosophy. I published my first short collection of poetry, Telling the Fractures, in 2008; to find out more about the book and to order, click here. My poetry is included in the Carcanet anthology New Poetries V and in the Salt anthology Best British Poetry 2013, and my first full-length collection, Missel-Child, is due out from Carcanet in January 2014. I have given poetry readings across the north and am keen to give more, so please get in touch if you are hosting an event and looking for poets.
I work as a freelance editor and writer for a range of clients including Tate Liverpool, BALTIC and Axis Graphic Design in Manchester. I am the coordinating editor for the poetry magazine PN Review (edited by Michael Schmidt and published by Carcanet).
